穴法包括取穴方法和腧穴处方两个方面。窦默在取穴方面十分强调定位的准确性，总结了不少具有普遍指导意义的取穴原则和简便易行的取穴方法；在腧穴处方方面，窦氏十分重视腧穴功能的特异性，倡用八脉交会穴和其它特定穴，选穴少而精，并注重选择针刺时机，这是他取得较好临床效果的重要原因。
