Taking Baihui (GV20) as an example and combined with the literature investigation on the acupoints of governor vessel on the head

and the midline of the anterior and posterior hairlines. The results showed that either the measured proportional distance "from Yintang (GV24

) to the midpoint of the anterior hairline"

or that "from the midpoint of the line connecting the apexes (helices) of the two ears to the midpoint of the anterior hairline" was smaller than the theoretical one; and the projected distance of the hair whorl on the line connecting the anterior and posterior hairlines was larger than the theoretical proportional distance. There was not a spacing of 0 between distance "from the midpoint of the line connecting the apexes (helices) of the two ears to the hair whorl"and that "from the parietal fossa to the hair whorl"

the distance of the latter measuring method was smaller than the former one. It is proposed that the surface landmark method serves as the fundamental approach for locating Baihui (GV20)

and clinical acupoint localization should emphasize the surface morphological characteristics of acupoints.
